Nice candid shot - well spotted!

I felt that the dark doors on the left attracted too much attention, so I've made you a mod in which I cropped them out. Looking at it, I might have given it a slight rotation as well before I cropped it, but I'm sure you can see what I mean anyway.

There are two important peices of information in this image, the man and the pub sign, as presented here neither has enough presence.

I just think you need to get in closer with candids like this. Imagine a wildlife shot where the subject was as small as the guy in this shot.

Appreciate the comments, however I only had a 50mm lens and I saw this guy come out at the corner of my eye so I only had a second to catch him lighting up as that was the "pose" I wanted. To get closer to him would have meant missing the shot.

Excellent candid shot - you've caught his pose perfectly.
Cropping out the black door has improved it too.
