Snow Storm in Spring, Snowy River, New South Wales

By BobinAus
A late snow storm in the Snowy Mountains turns spring back into winter. The long exposure makes the falling snow appear as a light mist. After 11 failed attempts the wild wind became calm for a brief spell and I was able to capture the trees and other plants looking relatively stable.

Thanks to Arne, Fred, Jacob and Walt for commenting on this picture in my portfolio several months ago.

And thanks to everyone who viewed, voted for or commented on previous upload, the rowers on the Molonglo River at dawn.

Thanks a million Jacob. I'm glad that you like the shot. This one was taken in blizzard conditions but the drifting snow disappeared thanks to the long exposure. After 11 failed attempts, I got lucky with the wind. it settled for just long enough to allow this exposure to capture relatively motionless vegetation. Cheers, Bob

Thanks for your comment Walt. I'm gratified that you like frame and the composition because I spent quite a bit of time before I was happy with these aspects of the picture.
Happy New Year!
Cheers,
Bob

Not the sort of scene many of us in the UK would associate with Australia, but very nicely done, Bob. The long exposure works very effectively and gives the water a frozen look, adding to the overall effect.

Thanks for your comment Allan. The 'frozen look' is an unintended result of the long shutter setting necessary to obscure the snow flakes but I was pleased with the smooth appearance of the water. Predictions are for big snow falls up on the ski fields in the coming winter. With travel restrictions now being lifted skiers may be up there too! Cheers, Bob
