Snowy Egret

By billma
Observed 54 species of birds on Sunday's trip to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in Northern Utah. Learned that the Snowy Egret almost became extinct in the late 19th century due to the popularity of its plumage on women's hats.

Gorgeous - very sharp. You've got a fine portfolio of wild birds - I love them.

This is one of your best shots, Bill. Beautiful in a natural setting. Excellent work as usual. The curve of the reed echoing the curve of the head really sets it apart along with the wonderful colours.

This was shot with my favorite... Canon 100-400 L IS lens at the 400 end. The bird seemed very unconcerned about my presence and I took many shots. This was the best in my opinion.

Thanks for the nice comment

Thanks Bill I've tried taking Egret shots in Portugal but it's very difficult getting within 50 feet but they are on dry land. Yours may think its safe in the marsh.

Excellent shot, I am still having trouble with this one. I have hundreds of shots, but none that I would post. All my opportunitys have been in direct sun light and the feathers get over expossed, and of course each time I didn't have a polarizing filter. But this summer I am going back to Texas were these and about 30 plus species of heron and egrets hang out. Brilliant shot, Spot On! Click!!!
