Makes a great original image John.
She's too gorgeous to know about floppy anything!

It's hardly surprising she hadn't seen a floppy one before

State of the art in their day (an improvement on the 5 inch floppies (which I've only ever seen but never used) 1.44 MB capacity, that's smaller than a single image I can upload here.
Kodak minidisc camera anyone?

I presume as well as showing her your floppies you showed her your mouse balls too! Smile
Something else the younger generation have never seen. Years ago when I was teaching the school technician had to glue the mice shut so the kids couldn't pinch them.

A wonderful silly Sunday image John, I must remember to pack one of those into
my camera bag. And one of those wax cylinders for recording and playing back sounds.SmileSmile
Happy Sunday.

I remember the 8" floppies that go back even further than the five and a quarter inch ones (had to look it up, but that's right...) Very vulnerable indeed.

Somebody had to make that remark, Kate!

When my sister-in-law first heard about online banking, John she actually thought the money came out of the CD drive slot!
Gospel! and even more worrying, she worked for the council!

Ditto . . . but that just proves that there are a few old .... here. Beyond that, data was stored on a roll of punched tape (5 or 8 hole) and a boxes of 80-column punched cards. Today's silly question might be, "how many cards are needs from a decent jpeg image like this?"

How we have moved on since these days! If we had to fit an image on to one of these floppies it would be the death of high resolution cameras! Good image by the way after a nostalgic dip into ages past.

Seems so very long ago now, yet it's not that many years ago...same as dial-up internet and you couldn't be on the land-line at the same time! Land-line? What's that then???

Actually, I was taught what passed for accountancy at the Army Pay Corps depot at Worthy Down, Winchester (I was a Sybil Serpent at the time). They'd had one of the earliest computers there - with a pond on the roof of the computer centre for cooling. Looking at Google Earth it appears that the buildings have changed a good deal since 1982, when I was last on the premises! The whole lot looks very different, and rather more permanent.

Lovely photo John! And a lot of memories around them for many people here.
Strange to think about the space on them Smile

I fondly remember the years when a friend would kindly request his guests: "DON'T TOUCH THE PC SCREEN"

Slightly bothered by the prevailing view that this fine technology is old hat ....... have I missed something? Oh well, I'll have a relaxing hour before turning in and listen to some Supertramp on the cassette deck.
Yours, mystified and monocled, Jacob Crackers Breeze-Fog.
A lovely idea and an equally delightful image! G SmileSmileSmile

Reminds me of when a couple of years ago, when my friends son discovered his vinyl collection and asked " How do these black cd's work" ?
