'So I said to him....' - Brimstone & Bee

By HobbitDave
Brimstone butterfly and bumblebee look as though they are having a good old gossip Wink Sunlight shining through butterfly's wings.
Nice to see a second hatching of Brimstones, and it's the first time for several years I've managed to snap one. The spring ones are usually flying very fast. I think this one is only recently hatched, part of the July/August second set. Taken on a rather windy day...

(Maxed-out telephoto 800mm, f8, ISO 500, 1/640). Frame added from iPads PhotoPal app. Not sure if I like it, perhaps too 'heavy'?
Exif added as it doesn't get added if you upload from an iPad.

Very nice shot of the Brimstone with the it's almost translucent wings: both it and the bee seem quite comfortable together.

Thanks kindly Ronnie, had hoped for a couple of years to take one of these, but they always seem to be flying very fast. Luckily this one wasn't, maybe they got caught up with the conversation with the bee Wink

Too right, Barbs, and the last thing I expected to see yesterday on a windy not-so-warm afternoon was a Brimstone butterfly, chatting to a bumblybee too! Wink

So glad you like it, friend. I was so chuffed to capture the Brimstone.........they aren't uncommon but always seem to be airborne! The one and only photo I had prior to these was taken in 1981 with a Minolta SRT101 film camera....a 25 year gap Wink. It's never too late.....
All the best, and am so grateful for the UA on this one, which means a lot due to the above!

Thanks so much, Len, really nice to see a Brimstone settled and feeding - the first spring batch seem to be always flying very fast, no Buddleia for them to feed on perhaps.

Simply stunning! I was not sure what a Brimstone was so educational as well.

So glad you like this one, Debs. I haven't seen the July/ August Brimstons around for several years here, so keep an eye on the Buddleia! Hope you had some joy with your 2x hummingbird hawkmoths, that's special!
