Sodden Bench

By NDODS
This image was captured in order to evoke a feeling. That feeling might be, loneliness, isolation, solitude, grief, pain or uncertainty, feelings that we can all associate with. "However how many of us actually portray those feelings in a positive light?"

On a more upbeat note I must take this opportunity to thank all of you for your most gracious comments, and welcoming words, following my earlier than planned upload. The words which were written meant so very much, and not only did they provide me with much comfort, but also the determination to move forward with new hopes and aspirations. A journey that may take sometime to achieve, but hey there's no rush...

Regards Nathan SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Solitude... and wet, Nathan. Shutter speed is perfect for the 'stair rods', and a good composition. The light shines well on the bench seat and drips.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination SmileSmile

What a emotional shot...can see you there in the pouring rain, sowester at the ready!!

When I was younger I would have revelled in this sort of I prefer the log fire SmileSmile and although we moan about the weather in this country you can't beat the changing seasons - they refresh and what shall I shoot next? WinkGrinGrin

Certainly evokes a feeling of the last week of constant rain Nathan.
Good shutter speed to capture the 'stair rods' of the rain

Your shot encapsulates summer 2012 perfectly: rain, rain and more rain.
You have captured the desolation of the scene so well along with that rain streaking down.
The B and W presentation somehow echoes the mood engendered by the on-going conditions.
Good to see you againSmileSmile

A thought provoking shot Nathan, as you say it evokes loneliness, isolation, solitude, etc, but also for me it reminds me of bouncing around the Solent in my fathers yacht, getting absolutely soaked, but enjoying every minute of it Smile

Nathan, yes this one evokes the feeling of loneliness. Nicely done. Deep

For me what jumps out is the contrast between the movement of the rain (very well captured, shutter speed spot on) and the sparkling stillness of the water drops, suspended, about to drip and disappear forever.
There's a story in that too.

The image sits well with your narrative, Nathan - food for thought.

Great image Nathan.
The image creates many feelings as you say.
For me it is the ideal balance between the hectic rush of modern day life and the time found to relax and contemplate.

A lovely capture Nathan, I see the light on the seat as the sun being a few moments away from bursting through the rain and steaming off the moisture, so that this seat may once again be used to contemplate in peace and quiet (says she, as it buckets down outside) ... Carol GrinGrinGrin
O I'm riding that wave with you Nathan, lovely capture very well taken image, a moment capture in time simple but very effective as you say there is no rush tomorrow is another there's a statement

I'd rather call it an artistic shot, simple and beautiful. I especially like the droplets underside of the planks of the bench.
3 Oct 2012 10:14AM
it echoes all the feelings you have stated Nathan, amplified by the mono production, however all overcome by a smile brought by the title good work

The B&W works very well here. I like the simplicity of the composition and as others have said, you have judged the shutter speed to perfection.

Recently a daughter sent a message that she was exhausted from work, etc. and would not do her usual run that day--this followed by a "sad face"---- My return to her was to change that sad face to a SMART FACE--- the relevance here is this--- SMART people don't choose to sit on a sopping wet bench in pouring rain--- SMART choices made here!

Another point of view i guess.

Excellent imageNathan and very thought provoking. reminds me of this verse
It isn't always easy this thing called life.
Plans don't always work out the way they're supposed to and misfortune sometimes clouds the horizon.
But.. no matter how lonely the morning sun becomes
We always have to remember that it is up to us
We are the ones that have to push the clouds away

In this very nice capture I get a feeling of no thanks bottoms up and keep moving on.Grin
