Solfar

From our last morning in Iceland last week. This is the Solfar sculpture on the Reykjavik seafront. The city has a fantastic backdrop of the mountains across the sea.

The area the Solfar is mounted was sheet ice from all the people that stop to look, so didn't risk getting any closer (I'm sure Icelandic hospitals are great, just didn't fancy ending up in one!)

from Wikipedia - Sun Voyager (Icelandic: Sólfar) is sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason (1931 - 1989). Sun Voyager is a dreamboat, an ode to the sun. Intrinsically, it contains within itself the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom. The sculpture is located by Sćbraut, by the sea in the centre of Reykjavík, Iceland.
