This mysterious life-size statue of a man contemplating the water held in his hands is the work of the celebrated British sculptor Sir Antony Gormley (there is a tube mechanism through his body, so as the water rises it fills his cupped hands). At times he stands up to his knees in water.
“Sound II” is fashioned from lead out of a plaster cast of the artist’s own body, and has stood in the Crypt below Winchester Cathedral since the late 1980s.
