It's definately on my 'places to visit' list now Dave! Well exposed for with excellent light and shadows, like the reflection too!

Amazing image Dave - too far from the North East I fear.

Nice exposure, I like the reflection in the still waters.

beautifully framed ...thought it was a very shiny floor to start with but the reflections are a bonus to the image (if not to the Catherdral)

It is indeed a wonderful experience. Very well captured here, this conveys the quiet mystery perfectly.

The shapes, the golden reflections and the variations in light make this the perfect setting for that lonely blue focal point.
Beautiful photography.

Great composition. I love the contrast in the shuny floor against the dull ceiling.

The reflections in the water on the floor really add that little bit extra to this image Dave. Superb.
Is it HDR ?

It's a cracker Dave. I do so like photographing inside Cathedrals myself, so peaceful and so rewarding, so Winchester is on my must visit list. The receding arches, the colours and reflections, topped off by the focal point of the statue all work together so well. I assume this is HDR or at least a couple of blended exposures? That or your Nikon can capture a much larger dynamic range than my lowly Canon Wink

I am really jealous.
When I went there they'd surrounded the thing with a multimedia experience type thingy. That means all I got was a shot through a big black screen.
Love the colour here.

Many thanks for all the encouraging comments everyone. I'm glad I emailed the Cathedral office before I went, as they were able to answer all my questions about tripods and access etc (Very helpful & quick responses). Yes I suppose it is HDR, but I only used the -1.00 stop shot out of the series of four bracketed exposures, and to this I added a mildly tone-mapped version of the normal exposure. There are a couple of minor adjustment layers for good measure, and I am personally delighted with the result and your responses. Cheers all...

You're absolutely right Pooch, I was at first the only one down there, and it was quite an amazing experience. Mavis I can highly recommend that you go back, it really is a great place and remember that it generally only floods in Winter, so you'll get the nice reflections at this time of year. Cheers everyone...

Wonderful composition, especially with those great reflections.

22 Feb 2008 9:25AM
Thanks Rende, I only went because the Cathedral office emailed me to confirm that it was flooded. They actually told me there was 8 inches of water, but it's clearly a lot less. I have seen shots of this sculpture without the water and I don't think it's quite the same. Thanks for the feedback, all the best...

Thanks Darren, I was helped by the staff emailing me with the information about water depth and so on, they were most helpful... Dave
