South Georgia 1984

By Kako
Frigate is HMS Penelope, F127 on a visit to South Georgia in 1984. One of the 'guardships' down there after the war.

Artillery piece I think was a remnant from WW1.

Can't remember whether this was taken with a Zenit E or Yashica FX3...I think the latter but not sure. Scanned on a Canoscan 4400F.

Lovely shot and a nice memento to treasure, nice conversion too.

A terrible and unnecessary conflict. A good reminder of fairly recent history. Allan

Thanks Joe. I came to be sorting through a load of old photos that haven't been looked at since I went digital...thought I might scan a few to see how they fared.
I was pleased with how this turned out and brought back a few memories too.

Thanks Allan. It was a very interesting trip down there and quite moving at times walking on some of the battlefields still littered with discarded equipment and broken weapons outside Port Stanley. Close enough to the actual history for me though.

Thanks to everyone else for your votes.

Regards

Karlo
