South Stack Lighthouse, Holy Island

By TrevBatWCC
After leaving Newborough and Ynys Llanddwyn, our next Anglesey stop-off was at the South Stack Lighthouse, Holy Island, and is the most westerly point. The lighthouse itself is on a separate small island, Ynys Lawd, access being by a footbridge. Built in 1809, it stands 28 metres high and was designed to allow safe passage for ships on the treacherous Dublin–Holyhead–Liverpool sea route. The lighthouse is open to visitors and you can climb to the top and tour the engine room and exhibition area. To reach the lighthouse, you need to descend over 100 metres vertically down to the footbridge…along the winding path & down around 400 steps! However, the best shots are to be had from the top and just part of the way down.
The lead image is taken from the top of the hill, with V1 including a couple of our Camera Club members in the foreground. Though not visible from high up, on heading further down you can see the light rotating (see V3), which is operated remotely by Trinity House.

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection’s Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging Smile

Gorgeous series, looks like a really interesting place, looking out to that expanse of sea.

The end of civilization... The lighthouse keeper's job must be interesting in winter.

Next stop Ireland.
Looks as if the weather was perfect for the visit, Trev. Bright and cheerful, which I suspect is more than anyone would be after going down and up those steps!
