Spain #116

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As darkness grows on the 4th of July, an Independence Day like no other....with few fireworks shows here or around the country (except that every city, ours included, has had random, legal or not legal fireworks being privately set off for weeks...and tonight is a traditional fireworks night), wth protests against racial violence still taking place, as states and cities reopening, the Corona virus cases are soaring in many places (and not in PA or Philadelphia), and the Narcissist-in-Chief continues to self destruct (which we can only hope he continues to do right into November), the subject of narcissism comes up in a way that anyone who has been around tourists has seen again and again. Here am I at_______. Not here is____________. It is all about me. So,throughout our trip, every time I saw someone(s) taking selfies.....out came my camera....my subjects often seemed to notice.....and also seemed not to care....the urge to document oneself in a famous place is just too great. The lead here is at Gaudi's apartment building in Barcelona....and until I looked at it large, did not even notice the guy in the background who is in the middle of his own selfie. And since it is still Saturday here....and the lead is in bright sunlight...this will do for Saturday Shadows as well. More selfies tomorrow...and maybe the next day too....there are a lot of them, folks. Have a good rest of the weekend.

A great set Peter. It's funny to watch people taking selfies. They put on some funny expressions at times. You captured several here. Good job.

It is so odd to be obsessed with 'me' - when everything that is good is about the relationship of 'me' with 'other'...

A very appropriate day - given your commentary - to post this series.

I'll just add that what makes America great is great-heartedness: the America of the New Deal, the Marshall Plan, the Apollo program. And to quote an earlier president - 'Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask instead what you can do for your country.' Someone has been asking the wrong question for years. And even his own supporters are starting to notice.

Hate this 'me... me....,me' culture of nowadays.
A visit last year to Lake Louise was a prime example - hundreds & hundreds of people, a great number of them with their backs to magnificent scenery, taking close-up selfies. Fortunately I have happier & better memories of a previous visit.

Yes John. It is time for the better angels to take this country back and help, restore the sense of goodness and morality that is our ideals.....realistic or not. Biden is certainly not my ideal.....Bernie much closer to,that....but he is a good man. The election cannot come soon enough.
