Spain #37

By handlerstudio

One last primate photo, another orangutan...a bit more time and photos to show at the zoo...and memories of being in Spain just a little over a year ago. Spain now closed, and spreading with corona....and this is not going to be quick. Thinking about John Dudler's comment on my writing yesterday...the term "social distance" is so humanly destructive right now. We are being told to hold up in our homes, stay away from other people...and we are such social creatures, culturally and genetically----just like the apes I have been showing for a few days. This, EPZ, is good.....we connect with friends which in most cases we will never meet face-to-face in life, but friendships happen....we need that sense of connection, of community.

To quote John's writing yesterday...."Having grown up in a conventional and loving family in the Fifties and Sixties, I discovered the importance of hugs and touching as part of normal social life much later than I am sure is good for people. I shall miss this for the next few months.

But I am hopeful of social closeness: already, members of my family are makign preparations for being together as a group through the modern wonder if the internet. I hope that this will bring us closer together - and that others wil ldo the same."

We can be something of a light for each other in a dark time. A funny metaphor, as I think about it, for photographers.

They make a fine family group---

I think I will re-start my "Glimpse of Home" page on FB----inspired by your text of the day---

Also--just got word from friends of the first case of COVID at the Lancaster general hospital-- distressing!

Social relationships without physical contact are like a three-legged dog. She walks, but she can't run. But we must follow the instructions...
Wonderful set, Peter!

Mixing metaphors - it is better to walk toward the light than to wait for another leg...

Thank you, Peter, for making the point that 'social distancing' is partly destructive. Loving from a distance might be a more positive way to follow guidance!

We must make sure that the current kind of distance does not become the new norm.

Love the photos Peter. Inconvenience for all at present but must have positive thoughts and that's how we'll survive this crisis.
