Sparrowhawk

By seejayess
This chap had just chased a collared dove into a rear window of the house - the dove died from the impact - the hawk then proceeded to devour the prey right in view of me!! I carefully retreated and grabbed the 75-300 zoom and with trembling hands (hence the soft image) grabbed a few shots.
Just thought I would share the tale with you guys Smile

Well done for getting this, they usually get scared off very easily.

Did you manage get a shot of the whole bird and it's prey?

Yes I did Paul - but I considered the women & children who might be watching Smile
I was very careful not to scare the bird of course and moved very slowly - it eventually took off with the dove and finished the meal down the garden an hour later!!
Thanks for the comment

Nice shot, well taken oportunity, nature is unfortunally true to form 'red in tooth and claw', sad to loose a dove, but got to get dinner somewhere.
I like the feather in the beak!

And that's all that was left :0( Like Dave says, they have to get eat to live. We had one take a sparrow from the vine last year. Never would have believed how many feathers such a little bird has.
