Spitfire Over Lancing College

Thanks to the Memsahib I have a zoom lens but unfortunately this is one area where it is irefutable that "size matters". Still, we do the best that we can and I hope that this and subsequent images don't appear too "grainey". Having numerous pictures of Spitfires I have recently been trying to get a good one of the aircraft coming towards me. At the '06 airshow at Shoreham I managed to snap this with Lancing College in the background giving a sense of low altitude and interest. I should have liked the composition to be slightly different but with a manual wind SLR and an approach speed of 300-400MPH you just take what you get. I'm quite pleased with it.

Great shot of a great plane. I can almost hear those engines! My Dad worked on Spitfires during his National Service and the sound of their engines makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck - just like they did his! Thanks.

It was quite a nice day but I am sans neg scanner and therefore somewhat reliant on how Boots (or whoever) prints the pictures. I have another couple of shots I intend to post from this event and I fear they suffer from the same problem. Having said that I hope that they also have qualities that will appeal. Thank you for the comments, funnily enough in the notes for one of my paintings (of Concorde) I put that "if you can almost hear the engines then I have achieved my objective." I always think this is the acid test for an "action picture" of a car or aircraft.
