This is Mineheads new Atlantic 85 lifeboat which was delivered yesterday. Before the boat is officially put on service the crew has to undergo a couple of day intensive training. The weather didn't disappoint and this photo was taken from 'Bessie', Mineheads old Atlantic 75 Lifeboat with the Pentax Optio WP that is standard RNLI issue to all lifeboat crews. I like this picture as it is one of the few that actually portrays what a squall is like when you are in a small boat doing 30 knots about 5 miles from land. It was hailing, raining, and cold and the visability was about 100 yards. The real nice thing about this picture is that I am now sat at home in the warm with a beer in my hand and I am not still out there. Dan Womack at the helm - nutter.

The title is apt. Although we can't see an awful lot of the lifeboat it really gives the feel of the conditions out there. The touch of red we do see lifts the shot.

What a shot!

It was dreadful out there today - you guys do a sterling job and this is a taste for us of what it can be like, and this isn't as severe as the weather can be.
