St. Swithun's church & Russian Cannon

By xwang
The photo was taken on the first day of December. It was the day that the lights were switched on in Retford. While we were waiting for the lights to be switched on, I took a photo of the church and the canon.
The church dates from the 13th century, according to Wikipedia and the restorations carry on according to Historic churches trust.
The cannon, nicknamed "The Earl of Aberdeen", was captured by the British forces during the Crimean War as a trophy. They took it back by rail from Russia. Bill Bryson mentioned it in his book, "Notes from a Small Island", he thought that people who were from Retford were very brave. Certainly, and they still are,....GrinGrin
