St Peter's Church

By TrevBatWCC
Heading into the town centre of Peel visited here, the remains of St Peter's Church. It was built around 1550 as a Chapel of Ease for the Old Cathedral of St German on St Patrick's Isle after a boat carrying a coffin for burial was wrecked. When the Cathedral fell into disrepair, St Peter's became the parish church. It now lies in ruins, rendered unsafe after being almost completely destroyed by fire in 1958. Only the outer walls, some tombstones and the clock and bell tower, which was built in 1872, remain.
The tall clocktower dominates the skyline in Peel, and can be seen in the background of my previous upload.

Many thanks to Carole (Monochrome2004) and Ian (dales) for their User Awards on my previous upload, West Quay , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw images processed in Nikon Capture NX-D, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😀👍

Lovely series, when I looked at the versions I wondered why there was a clock in the ruin until I looked again and saw how you had captured it in just the right place. Great captures.

The IOM is very often overlooked as a source of history - not to mention overlooked as a location for photographers...
