Stac Pollaidh and Coigach

By AnnChown
One of the most difficult things for me is to find somewhere in Assynt which is a good spot for sunrise. When we were there at Easter I was up early several times scouting around to try to find a good location. So far, all my ideas haven't been brilliant - but this was one of the places I thought might work. I guess if I'd have hung around a bit longer the light might have been better, but I think the sun had risen about 30 minutes before this was taken. Anyway - I love Stac Pollaidh and her neighbours, so here is the image for better or worse! I only noticed the white spot almost dead centre after I'd uploaded this - when I zoom in on the original I find it's a large bird; maybe a buzzard... Smile or a gull perhaps! Smile
Thanks for looking and for any comments and/or criticisms.
Thank you to Moira (mrswoolybill), John (lifesnapper) and Nathan (NDODS) for their UAs for Dawn Breaker!
Ann

A fine record of the range of peaks under subdued lighting: given the conditions, you have done pretty well, Ann.
The letter box format works so well too.

A wonderfully calming image Ann. The mountain range all though imposing they seem to provide a comforting feel and sense of security to the piece which I rather like.

Gentle, almost soporific layers, the eye wafts slowly across them from the left until faced all of a sudden with the sun gleaming off a snow slope . . . Not startling perhaps but it certainly woke me up! Perhaps that is the mystery noticed above.
I too like the wide view.

I love the wide view in this image. The touch of light on the snow is very appealing.

This is excellent Ann, the lens used is perfect as it has compressed the perspective, we cannot control the weather so have to make do with what we have, you have done this brilliantly.

I like the light in this, Ann. Very sleepy early morning feel and it looks like the start to a good day Smile

My health is pretty good, by the way. Thanks for asking Smile I hope all's well with you.

Late here, just so you know, we never see a sunrise, this is much more than we see in the morning---

That little hint of dawn is just lovely on those low lying mountains.
I got up early in Lewis one April morning hoping for a sunrise but it was very blue
and still.
As Trev says you'd one brilliantly with what you got.
Very peaceful image.

A strange and quiet corner of Scotland, some gorgeous mountains and lochs.
You have a fine image here Ann that would look good printed and framed on the cottage wall.

I think for an image like this you need to be thinking Pano from the start Ann. Hard to get much impact from a wide vista in a small image.
A few shots merged would have been good.
Brian.
