Thanks everyone, and Tony it was all down to the big lens. I'm thinking of hiring the 800mm for the next gig. All these big telephotos get you closer to the action...

To prove your point... Mike Yip , a local Vancouver Island birds photog, uses 800mm often.
Google ' VancouverIslandBirds '. He is very good. I hope you enjoy his skill. TG

My max tele is a dark 500mm. Vastly different than a bright 800mm. Must make a blind to get closer. TG
