Stairway to heaven

By ColleenA
Hi everyone,
I am just back from climbing the Sydney harbour bridge....the most perfect weather today....blue skies and 27 deg. They have water fans on the way up so that you can cool yourself down. The hardest part was the ladder climb at the beginning and end of the climb....the actual curved section was a dream. No cameras allowed unfortunately They did take some of us up there so will upload as versions.
This image was taken yesterday while standing at the opera house.
Bridge Stats:
Height 134m
Length 1,149m
Stairs 1,390
Steel 52,800t
Rivets 6 million
View 360 deg..... and I did itGrinGrin
Have a nice day

They cannot afford for someone to drop their camera on a boat going past under the bridge. Some people are really careless. It's also very windy up there. They do stop a few times to take a pic or two of us. They give us a pass to go up the stone turret at the beginning of the bridge, I will go there tomorrow and get some images with my camera, not as high as the bridge but still a nice view.

Think I remember Billy Connolly doing this and it looked mighty scary.
So very well done Colleen. The photos afford some amazing views of the harbour and Opera House.
I expect it took all your concentration to do the climb without taking images too.
A wonderful memento of a great achievement.

What a great thing to do, and in such lovely weather.
We can walk over the O2 Arena (The Millennium Dome) in London, but it's nothing as huge as this.

I had to hold on tight going up and down the ladders but the section you see in the image I did not hold on at all it was a very easy stair climb...

When I saw the first picture I wondered what birds are there on the bridge, nor I suspect that you can climb up there! At least in Australia you are not allowed to take shots for a real reason (not fall) from us you can not take photos often without reason
Great shot! Love the first picture, because it makes you feel how small we are!
