Standing proud

By Arvorphoto
Today it's back to the heritage of my local area (with a colour version added)

Standing as a monument to a bygone era, with the towering remains of Holman's Shaft engine house and the remains of its boiler house in front and the scant remains of Rule's Shaft to its left, these form part of the remains of the South Caradon copper mine.
To the right are the remains of the collapsed tunnel under the spoil tips which took a tramway from Kitto's Shaft (the most eastern part of the South Caradon mine) conveying its ore to the dressing areas to the west of this location.

South Caradon Mine was to become one of the largest copper mines in Cornwall, and one with a fascinating history, it was to raise 217,820 tons of ore between 1837 and its closure in 1885 and once employed 650 people.
Perched on the side of the 1200 feet high Caradon Hill, it was an enterprise with a rags to riches story and one that had a huge impact on the social, financial and transport history of South East Cornwall. The mine now forms an important part of the Cornish World Heritage Site.

The slightly brooding sky gives this a good atmosphere. Love the tones.
