Standing still

By redstag
A long time ago, back when these stones were a little newer, Nick (Vintage Red) took a shot of them. This shot lodged in my mind. I liked the composition, but was always convinced that there was more texture to be had.
Now, Nick doesn't allow mods on his shots very often, (I think he has allowed about two to be modified), so if I wanted to give the shot the Redstag overworked look, I would have to shoot the stones myself.

So on the last Reds on Tour trip out, I persuaded Nick to indulge me and we stopped at Castlerigg.
The conditions were not quite as nice for us as they had been for Nick's image, but that wasn't going to get in my way.
So Nick, thanks for the inspiration. Here is my version, click on this link if you want to see Nick's Still Standing shot.
All comments welcome, thanks for looking, have a good day.

Jon

BTW-feel free to add a mod to my shot I like seeing how other people would treat the image.

Interesting comparison Jon, you've certainly dragged out the textures in this atmospheric shot.

It's a great place with so much to offer, I keep revisiting my own and trying different approaches.

Appreciated the intro Jon - thanks - and this is a good take on the view. The conditions wern't ideal as you said and a little of that statement must refer to the condition of the turf. However, you certainly have drawn out some good texture and the dark heavy sky suits the mood of the image well.

A good image and one we don't often see of Castlerigg. we are normally so obsessed to taking in the full works. Super detail in the stones.
