Starter's orders

By mrswoolybill
Another from the local Kite Festival last month. During the course of the day the tortoises were terrorised by various strange creatures. I uploaded the flying tiger a little while ago. Unfortunately the giant octopus failed to get off the ground. So the clown took over.
Pamelajean commented on the previous upload that the tortoises looked sad. I think asking anyone who has to be inflated from their rear end to look cheerful about it is expecting a bit much.
Thanks for looking,

Thanks guys. I should add that the wind was measured at 35mph, which is way above the limit for competition flying, and it was gusty - so the kites were jumping around all over the place. It took me 43 attempts to get the tiger, it only took five attempts to get this one.

Those tortoises look as if they are scampering away as fast as their short legs will allow from the threat above them. Totally agree about your comment on being inflated from the rear!
Silliness personified, Moira.

The clown looks like he is going to kick them in their pore little inflated rear ends. They seem to be scurrying as fast as they can go. Great colourful fun image.......Sandy

The tortoises are fun - but what are they doing? Are they kites too? If they are, they need more air... Wink

Thanks folks, we've been out/off site most of today. Anne, the tortoises are a special sort of kite that sits pegged to the ground but inflates from air currents. There were some ladybirds as well.

"I think asking anyone who has to be inflated from their rear end to look cheerful about it is expecting a bit much".
I quite agree, Moira, an air enema would be decidedly unpleasant. And the reverse can also be so.
Had to look up "coulrophobic", should have known it was a "fear of clowns".
Anyway, an amusing image of the little tortoises at the starting line, on their marks.
