Steve

By ZenTony
For Folkestone Triennial 2014, Sarah Staton, a sculptor, developed Steve, conceived as a 'people friendly sculpture' or a personified sculptural pavilion, and placed on The Stade, originally a working area alongside ships berthing in the harbour,
Steve is fabricated from large scale, articulated plates of Corten steel arranged to define a volume with a hole through the middle, or to form a small pavilion, its sculptural language playing on the tropes of machismo seen in monumental public art in the tradition both of Henry Moore and Richard Serra. In addition, Steve is set among a group of three seating benches hybridised with planters – Steve's 'children' – also made from steel and producing a supply of edible costal plants destined for use in the local restaurants.

And there you have it !

Ooer! This is rather tasty, Tony. Kilroy is drooling...
I remember The Stade for two things, and this sculpture is not one of them...scrumptious fish 'n' chips and over the road, copious amounts of Long Island Ice Tea in a cocktail bar I cannot remember the name of!Blush

Great set and the lead is rather tasty! Love the detailed information and the fact that the sculpture works in different ways to be inclusive in the community.

I do like the scurrying figure exiting bottom left...

Very nicely captured and processed Tony. I googled the sculpture to see what the whole thing
looked like. I don't think it looks anything like Steve Smile
One of the descriptions said," Its sculptural form plays on the ‘masculine’ language of monumental public art" ???

The sculptures combined with that sky make an amazing mono.

Excellent set Tony, only B&W does it justice. V1 and V3 work best for me,I like the shadow in V1 and the parallel vapour trail in V3, the sculpture is more prominent whereas in the lead it's fighting with the sky for attention.

All has been said above, but here goes all the same Wink: very striking, strong and unique images (the lead and V1 being my favorites) underlined by your masterly processing. Very modern, the trails of condensation are the perfect path into the image.
