Stinkhorn...

By Greyheron
While checking out my local woodland this afternoon I came across this Stinkhorn - smelt it first, took a bit of finding but this is the resulting image from the afternoon... Was rather pleased the flies stayed on the cap gathering the smelly olive-green 'gleba' which attracts them, they then distribute spores via their feet Smile

My thanks to all those kind people who gave their valued User Awards to my last image - so very much appreciated Grin

Mike

The smell is terrible and no wonder it attracts flies, but this is the first time I have ever seen one so heavily 'populated'. I would say well spotted but in this case perhaps well smelled!!!!! Excellent detail!

I had not heard of a stinkhorn until today Mike- very interesting subject matter.
Definetly a fly party going on there. Prayers just said to not bring me back as a fly in the next life
Cheers Walt
