Stormy Melbourne

By ColleenA
Good day....
Thanks for your votes and comments and to Isabel (Chinga) for her UA...all much appreciated.
We caught a tram into the city yesterday and by the time we got there it had started raining...not what I had planned as I wanted to walk about with my camera along the Southbank. I managed a few in the soft rain before settling in for a long lunch. This looks across the Yarra to the right..the Flinders street station is the gold and brown building in the foreground.
V2 shows the Eureka towers...the tallest building in Australia. 88 floors high...the views from there are amazing.
Have a nice day, Melbourne has the coldest day of the year in 9 years ...3 deg to 8 deg...

Very moody shots along the riverside, and so well captured in the relatively low light.

Very good series, Colleen. Looked location up, and it has a very large bay, which should offer great boating facilities! The dark clouds remind me of Tulbagh, but the ceiling appears very much lower. Am very glad that photo opportunities abound! Good luck with the D5300, it sure looks like a great camera. Miss the articulated screen, I had a Chinese version of the 90 deg anglefinder for the D3200. This was invaluable for closeups, but to my dismay, a few days later I found that Nikon had very slightly broadened the mount, so it does not fit! This also means that the one made by Nikon also does not fit, unless they make a third mount. This means that the D7100 has its own special mount, and this feature is not compatable with either the amateur or the professional cameras.

Martin

It's just as bad in Cape Town Carol...Sad... I am enjoying the cold though, makes a nice change as we always seem to miss the winters as we travel to the UK and Europe in July normally. It's a good excuse to buy snugly clothes

So unusual for you to be in adverse weather conditions.
However is does make for dramatic images of your new city.
I know you were learning to use Photoshop on the cruise - so
a very useful tip learned from Willie (banehawi) for correcting verticals
is to use Distort under Images - Transform - Distort - then with the control key held down, pull
down or up or whatever it takes to straighten the distortion. This only affects the corner chosen
an dis very useful. It'll be in elements too - not sure if location is the same.

3c to 8c in the winter would be sunbathing weather for us up here Colleen love your compositions in V1 and 3 the cloud formation add drama to the shots and lend themselves to be tone mapped so I'm off to play with those two images meantime have a wee UA to cheer you up in the cold

Terrific stormy shots and it has certainly changed since I was there!
All I can remember is the library had a permanent waterfall down over the huge window. Wonder if it is still there?

V1 and V3 my favourites. Super set Colleen, think I'll pass on going up the tallest building to see the sights, I don't have a head for heights, which is a bit silly really when I think that I used to go abseiling in my younger days.

Mod of V2 Colleen - it may not be perfect and your name is out of alignment.
I added to the canvas before distorting so as not to loose part of your image.
I did that by making sure white was b/g colour and taking crop tool outwith the image.
Other members who are better at this maybe can explain a bit more.
