Stormy Sea.

By paulbroad
Not usually what I do!

Taken at the same time as the gulls, looking the other way. Looks a bit patchy but must have been like that I Think. Dark sky and spray. Not much done to it at all, which is unusual for me. I usually find the need to do a bit. Just really a smart sharpen and a touch of burning in on the wave crests.

Lovely seascape with a nice sense of movement of the wind & waves, only neg point is the large concrete shaped triangle in the bottom right hand corner. Have uploaded a mod with the crop but find with the crop you will lose some of the impact from the original shot, which of course you don't want to do.

Beautiful atmospheric capture; I like the mix of stormy seas and brooding sky.

To misquote Derren Brown - '...and you're out on the prom!'

Beautifully atmospheric, invoking sound and smell. One of those cases where not doing much processing is precisely the right thing to do, for me.

For the sake of a mod, I may dodge and burn a tad...

The spray really helps to emphasise the wind effect in this very dramatic stormy view - no wonder the seagulls were grounded!
Not keen on the triangle of black bottom right so tried a mod, roughly(!) cloning out that area and cropping off the first line of posts - also reduced the blue very slightly. Great shot though.

Totally agree. The black concrete sea wall is a real problem. I tried cropping it, but, as Mike also says, it ruins the effect of th rest of the image. I did consider trying to clone but decided life is not long enough.

Yes, you can smell this one.

A touch too sharp perhaps.

Loaded a mod; you dont need to clone to remove that triangle, or crop; you can copy an area and paste it over, which is done in the mod.

Spot on, Willie. I should have thought of that on auto, but never crossed my mind. Just shows how a fresh pair of eyes comes up with the goods.

Hi Willie, Just a quick question about your above mod, when you say copy to you mean the Patch Tool in PS?
Mike.

No, copy and paste.

So for example, use the marquee tool (rectangular selection tool); feather set to zero. Select a chunk of the black barrier and post on the left of the opening, down to the bottom; then control C to copy, and control V to paste the selection (it will be right on top of the original selection) then using the move tool to place it over the traingle.

It will be on a layer, so use a mask and a black brush to remove whats not needed. Minor clean up will need minor cloning.

Great capture Paul, great to see a rough sea only thing is the triangle in bottom right corner. The mod banhawi has done looks great without it

Hi Paul,
Please see my mod.
There seems to be some marking on the RHS, just above the black triangle.
Looks like brush strokes?

I think it's natural, Bren. Cant remember doing anything there. There was some foam in the waves, may be that.

I think I'm mistaken Paul.
Having zoomed in on it, there's a few similar marks at the water's edge a little farther down.
I think it's a shadow.
