Strange Reflections

By ade_mcfade
Alas the Gherkin series comes to an end with probably the most obscure shot of the lot.

When you get right up close to the thing the first thing you notice is how small the thing is - it's footprint isn't much bigger than a large pub, makes up for it in helight of course

But the second thing is the HUGE zig Zags coming down to earth to hit the foundations - they're stunning and really bright white, so make for a decent mono effect.

this one's from a little car park area that was empty, I was obviously drawn by the zig zags, but this one was mainly about the reflections, little triangles and diamonds of light slowly moving around.

I think it's a marminte shot, but I hope the huge contrast and white X's grab you enough to open the thumbnail Smile

This is the best shot I've seen of the Gherkin by far. I love the origiinal point of view, taking in "old traditional" London with the cobble street and the new contemporary London, even from this angle you know it's the Gherkin. I think the toning works a treat too as I think a colour version would look flat, usually a comment for mono's and it's all topped off very nicely with that gorgeous light. Can't stand marmite myself, but this is a cracker, it must be as I haven't waffled on like this for ages Smile

I don't know the place other than by reputation, and I don't understand

but despite all that I'm enjoying the strength and structure of the image.

just the 2 for me, big day tomomrrow - if it's sunny, cricket at headingley (lots of drink) or a wander round Leeds if it's cold Smile

they're both in Leeds Rog, and there's some cracking ale houses in town - there's a Taylors pub within 100 yds of a York Brewery pub, heaven;ly

Taylor's Landlord superb. Don't think I know any York Brewery beers. Hey, as you've obviously got bugger all to do Wink, how about giving us a crit on some of my latest hdr stuff. I'm quite pleased with it. Not bothered about clicks but would appreciate your opinions. Hope you don't mind me asking.

More obscure perhaps, but another fine mono conversion that grabs with the more simple visual elements and retains interest with all the surface details and lighting.
