Joanie and I venture to Woodstock several time in the course of a year. Usually it yields some geat people pictures. This 1st trip of the 2008 season was very quiet in town. We grabbed two people shots as I was drviing out of town and that was all. We will be going back in a few weeks though.
For you history buffs here is some background info on the festival that was called Woodstock, though it was not held in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK MUSIC & ART FAIR
The Summer of 1969
This was the place to be that summer.....
Bethel, New York..... August 15, 16, & 17..... 1969
More than 450,000 people attended the festival. in that time, minds were open, drugs were all but legal and love was "free". The music began Friday afternoon August 15 and continued until mid-morning Monday August 18.
The festival caused one of the worst traffic jams in history, it actually closed the New York State Thruway.
Woodstock attracted diverse groups of people, some even interested in the music.
There were 2 deaths.............There were 2 births
Although there were more than a few drug busts, there were no reports of burglary or violent crime in the surrounding communities.
On the positive side, 500,000 young citizens were virtually left on their own and discovered the words Sharing, Helping, Consideration, and Respect to be very powerful.
For details on how this all came to be, here is a very informative link. [link=]http://www.geocities.com/~music-festival/how-w.htm[/link]
Someday I'll figure out how to make that a live link. Thanks out to MrWB for the lesson appreciated very much.
