Summertime Blues III

By Glostopcat
A set of images of some of the blue butterflies that I saw this summer when visiting Swelshill Bank near Stroud, plus a couple from my allotment.
V1 - A male adonis blue feeding on a carline thistle and giving us a glimpse of his wonderful electric blue colour
V2,V3 - "The Blues Brothers" - Two male adonis blue butterflies vying for position on a carline thistle on the steep slopes of Swelshill Bank
V4 - A male adonis blue butterfly basking on an oak leaf on Swelshill Bank, taken with the Canon Eos 600D
V5 - A male holly blue that visited my allotment, this is a record shot of one with its wings open, the first time I have managed to catch one like that on camera, so a bit of a rarity
V6 - The same holly blue on some sweet williams at my allotment taken shortly after v5
V7 - Especially for Silly Sunday a "holy" Chalkhill blue butterfly, this male of the species was captured at Swelshill Bank back in August
V8 - Another male chalkhill blue butterfly taken at Swelshill Bank, this one was taken with the Canon EOS 600D

They are abundant on a few sites in the Cotswolds, particularly Swelshill Bank and Rodborough Common near Stroud, other good places to see the blues are Dorset and the South Downs in Sussex.

A very fine set of images of this particular species, Ed: so difficult to choose a winner, each and every one so well captured, so they'll have to share my single available vote.

Wonderful set Ed.
I'm liking V5 for simplicity.
V6 good contrast between pink flower and butterfly.
Good title for V2.
I was interested to see what your new Canon EOS 600D
could do and enjoyed V4 for clarity of butterfly and liked the leaf he was on.
Also liked V8 with delicate flowers to host the lovely butterfly.
Let us know how you find the 600D ( I have 450D) so well behind!
Read that the 650D is good for night shots without a tripod!
