Hi, Emmanuel -

First of all, welcome to both Ephotozine and to the Critique Gallery. You've arrived here because you ticked the 'Critique Wanted' box - if you don't want detailed comments, please make sure you don't tick the box in future.

But if you do want us to look at your picture as critically as possible, and in detail, we need more information from you. If we're going to give you the best feedback that we possibly can, we need real input from you, including a lot more information. That way, the critique that we give is far more likely to be what you are looking for, and consequently far more helpful to you.

What is your reason for requesting critique?
What inspired you to take this photo?
What were you hoping to achieve?
Do you feel that you succeeded or failed?
Are there any specific elements of your photo that you want help with?
Do you want advice on camera settings, processing, composition, or something else?
Do you have any particular questions you would like answered?

So - over to you... I'll just comment that this looks very heavily saturated, even for the bright colours of the Mediterranean, and that I'd have chosen a slightly smaller aperture for more depth of field and maximum quality. It's nice and sharp, though, and definitely makes me wish I was there!

Hello, Emmanuel, and welcome to the Critique Gallery.

The bright yellow certainly makes me feel warm. and your alley holds intrigue because we want to venture further down it. It's an attractive street scene.

I felt that your frame was a bit too tall, and that the interest could be better condensed by cropping some off the top, which I have done in my modification.
I also desaturated the colour slightly, brightened the image overall, lifted the shadows and reduced highlights. Only you will know if this colour was truly what you saw, but I felt it was quite highly saturated, and that it simply needed a bit of brightening in order to look more sunny.

I hope you will be able to answer some of the above questions, and join in the conversation here.

Pamela.

Pamelajean has since done some detective work; it appears that binary comment is being added by Gimp. Mystery solved!

dudler and pamelajean Thank you so much for your constructive critique. Both comments were really helpful. The alley did look a tiny bit more on the yellow ochre side which was the colour that caught my eye initially and made me stop, look and shoot. The original photo had a pipe going down the right side of the picture which was the only bit that I cropped out. I wanted to convey the heat that was being radiated by the walls and other buildings. I was a bit wary to crop out the top window. It wasn't quite the right time of day to go out for a shoot but it was the only time I had on my hands that day. Apart from that sometimes at high noon I do get the long shadows and other textures on walls.

banehawi I did not know what binary comment meant, but once you pointed it out it made sense instantly. Thanks.

The few hors around noon aren't a great time for many kinds of photography, but if the shadows are falling interestingly, as they are here, there's good reason to shoot at high noon!
