Sunrise over ancient lands, Suilven.

By AndyB1976
My mate & I undertook a trip to a remote area in Scotland called Assynt. This involved a 5-hour drive from Glasgow and 5-hour walk into one of the most remote places in the UK. Our packs were the heaviest yet, two days worth of food and water (and whisky), DSLR kit, winter gear and four season geodesic mountain tent.

We went to climb a mountain 'Suilven', set basecamp on the summit ridge awaited sunset, then moonrise and sunrise. We got battered with the wind, soaked in the cloud and frozen throughout the night.

Yeah it was a fantastic trip, nice wee dram under the moonlit expanse of Inverpolly Nature Reserve, came back with some decent shots albeit the conditions were tough with filters constantly fogging up and the tripod unable to stand in the wind. It was a tough walk in and up and equally as tough getting back to the car.

Whilst sat in the car, feet on fire, shoulders worn by the rucksack straps, hands and knees scraped sliding about on the scramble up and down I thought well I won't be back here again, its done. Reviewing the pics and short vid clips made me realise its a special place indeed, and will be back but for more than one night!!

Andy.
