Good composition but over-saturation renders the image synthetic, there is fine line to work to...............

thats what Im trying to avoid Steve, so are you saying it is now over saturated? Which one, all of them or just the new methodology?

I do know the sky was spectacularly colourful, and if you look up Amanda Broughton, she has an image up now, that is a good rendition of the sky as it really was. You may be able to compare mine to hers and see if its over done.

in fact, here it is.

Im only linking to Mand's shot, as its a true reflection of the colour of the sky as it really was.

I used to adjust levels, then carry our any dodging and burning as necessary, and any cloning etc. I also used to run a saturation action, but usually toned it down a about 15 to 20 %. If the action was way too much, then I undid it, and jsut added a 20 % maximum colour boost.

Thanks to advice, I have started to use the curves now, and have been playing with that. I now still only add about 20 % colour boost with this shot though, I think I went to 25 %. I got a little braver, ha ha.

I have already darkened the lower bank of cloud a wee bit, till i got this, and I was happy with it.

Any other advice is welcome.
