I like the shot overall but particularly the foreground and the apparent criss-cross effect on the sand

It is a difficult tradeoff. Here, you lose that wide expansive view, but you gain the details and subtle colours in the foreground. Still, these are good choices to have, as there are plenty of good things ineach. I can rarely make up my mind about landscape/portrait unless the choice is obvious.

Now if it were me I'd have shot it the other way around with less foreground and more sky!.....Now you know why I'm no landscaper...LOL....Superb Mari!
