I'm not an expert on birds but this looks under-exposed and I'd say the crop is rather loose — a portrait orientation would let you get in tighter. I can't tell if the lack of detail is caused by missed focus or camera shake but a fast shutter is important, even if it means pushing up the ISO a bit. To get good focus, make sure you're using a single autofocus point and adjust manually if necessary.
Shooting from below is always hard, as you're photographing the shaded part of the bird against a bright background. Again, a tighter crop would eliminate some of that bright background and let the bird stand out more. It also lets you expose for the bird because, while the sky will be blown out, there'll be less of it to grab the eye. Cropping closer, applying a gamma correction of about 1.3 and pushing up the saturation gives a more vivid image.
