Swirly !

By BarryC123
Detail of aircraft engine ... but of course you knew that.

Now I wouldn't exactly say I agonized over the exact crop/composition of this, but I'm wondering if anyone would have done it differently, and if so, why?

V2 is a different take on the same subject which, as i spent a lot less time messing about with, I now think I prefer.

I always enjoy looking at spiral images, and this is no exception. I like this as is, but if you have a "golden mean" tool, you might check to see where it is place on the grid. My eyes tell me that perhaps it could be moved up and to the left a little.

Actually, you're right Joline.
I deliberately moved the centre-point off where it 'should' be.
I've not had my third coffee of the morning yet, so I'm still feeling mean.

I like the more discreet tones of V2 although V1 is the more classical abstract. Joline is probably right about the precise placement in V1, though the Golden Mean is more of a guideline than a rule. It's all a matter of opinion anyway - personally I like both of these as abstracts (and choice of subject!)

Precise composition and detail and obviously a very strong play on patterns to draw the viewers attention!

Prefer V1 Barry for the more linear, graphic look to it.The curves seem to draw you in more too.
Good shots.

It's like one of those "what's this?" puzzles. V2 reveals the engine.

I like both versions, though I'd be tempted to lose the dark corners (vignette?) in V2.

I'd also have tried to get square on, even more so the V1, but as you said, you probably spent too much time on the shot as it was, & that would just be anoraking. Smile
