T2 (The airport not the Terminator)

I have been wanting to have a go at this high contrast with multiple selections for a while. I have heard it referred to as "Fine art black and white".

Its very time consuming as you have to create multiple selections very carefully and then create a neutral, an overexposed and an underexposed B&W layer. Then using masks and the gradient tool, reveal different selections in such a way that you get this beautiful transition from white to black.

First time doing this. Very enjoyable and you get good practise using the Pen tool.

Definitely something I will have more goes of.

So complicated...

Clever, and requires dexterity, so it's definitely a craft product, and it has my admiration as such.

Whether it's art, though... I'm not sure: if it's done really well, and the result is beautiful, why not? But I'm wary, always, of people proclaiming themselves to be artists. Trained in art - provable. Artist? How?

I'm not decrying the result, by any means. Just the wholesale use of 'fine art' to describe photography.
