Continuing on from yesterday, this was the male rhino who was lying one side. You can see he has an open wound on his back leg. Not sure if lions attacked him. He looked like he had tears Ā….there were two ox peckers on him, you can see one is inside his ear. They had been picking on his wound.
Always sad when you see wildlife injured especially rhinos. The whole week was sad for us as they were experiencing one of the worst droughts which resulted in lack of water and grazing. We saw so many dead animals scattered through the Bush.
I donĀ’t normally upload versions but IĀ’ve included a close up of his face and horn.
Many thanks for your votes comments and user awards all much appreciated

I know it wrong but could you not give water to these great beasts.
Only to help them get to the next water hole.
Sad to see but nature does what it does.
Nice photojournalism.

Two beautiful pictures of the harshness of the wild bush and the fight for survival. The Rhino looks so sad especially captured in the version. Stunning captures of this animal and story.
Gets my GEA.

A contrasting follow up, Colleen and so sad to see animals injured when they can do little or nothing to help themselves.

Such an emotive image and we have to accept that this happens in nature but it is hard. Thank goodness it isn't poachers and you have said it is a well managed game reserve.

excellent photography
sadly, treating sick and injured animals (especially big and dangerous ones) presents a dilemma between letting the wounds heal by themselves and putting the animal in question to sleep for quick treatment or surgery (however immobilizing drugs may produce a fatal effect on the animal patient)

Excellent images Colleen. Very sad to see but life is harsh and unfortunately these things
happen. Victims of climate change perhaps. Hopefully the water and food that was provided helped them get through.
So sad to see Colleen
