The focus on the eye (literally) works really well, it really draws my eye to that part of the picture.

WILLIE...A superb MOD......I tried a lot of very amateur things to brighten him up but got in a real mess and went with the original.

Yes, it does look good. And it was good to get the eye sharp. I guess you could have gone for more DOF and taken a bunch of shots hoping for no movement of the bird or your hand. But I'd be happy with this one.

Thanks again everyone.

PATRICK...I have less brain cells left than my camera has pixels and my main priopity was to get something I could see onto the back of the camera.
This achieved and the birds were packed away while ANDY did a display so there was no time to get anymore shots.
Also I was struggling with a bad b/g and this f stop was ideal to blur it out.
POINTS TAKEN and thanks for the advice.

As you know i'm into Kestrels in a big way at present keith and taking into account the conditions you say this is a fine capture and you managed to get a nice eye and detail. Only thing I might say is try to get to the birds level rather than looking down on it, it will give a better perspective and you might have been able to get it all in frame

"the best I could do was get the eye area something like, with all the rest out of focus."
Your words Keith, but I have to say this is far better than a lot I have seen. The feather detail o/all is extremely good (no jelly like mass) and in view of the poor light conditions you have done so well.
