The Assassin

By AnneWorner
I'm experimenting; with processing, and also shooting different subject matter.

This is Zelus Luridus aka the Assassin Bug. About 8mm long, it is stalking these helpless little aphids. Awwww Tongue At first this little fella played hide-n-seek with me, but now he poses willingly Wink

A very beneficial bug to have in the garden. Just don't let it jab you - it hurts!

I am currently using the 12-50 kit lens that comes with my E-M5 - it does a fair job on macro images. I am waiting for the 60mm macro which hopefully will be available in the US soon! It has already been released in Britain.

I fear slightly for my sanity when I get that lens.....

Thanks for looking,

Anne

He is a very fancy bug--all that glitter and all-- and useful as well!

Impressive! Could do with one of these little fellows over here in a normal summer, though I think even the Aphids game up in summer 2012!

Quite an amazing shot with your kit lens I'd say. You have allowed us to enter the insects' world.

Such a well focussed image, and cute in a grotesque sort of way I suppose. But hey, we all have to survive somehow. Smile

I so envy you the EM-5. I tried one on the weekend in a shop and was blown away by the speed of focussing and capture, and the quietness, but Oh!, that menu!!! Don't think I could ever get to grips with it. So probably saved myself a shedload of money. Grin

Nice macro shot Anne, good detailed capture showing life in the fast lane, well spotted good shot.

Chris, I can from two prior Olympus cameras, so the menu seemed straight forward to me. Sometimes though, I discover some little gem I had not know was in the menu. It truly is a great little camera.

Anne, this is another great macro -- it even tells a story.

By the way -- in CA people buy ladybugs for their garden to fight aphids.

We do here too Walter - this is an aphid that is specific only to the milkweed plants. The milkweed is like a microcosm all its own: queen and monarch larvae, ladybugs, assassin bugs, aphids, predatory wasps - I just leave the plants alone and let nature do the dictating. The milk from the aphids is used by the male monarch!
