The Avenue of Shadows

By helenlinda
Well it all depends on what you see - I see the shadows first, and the trees come second - so it may seem off centre to you, but symmetry works for me. I'm hoping the strong boxed hedges balance the trees. Never tried a composition like this before, and I wait with bated breath for the reaction to it
Thanks for looking
Helen

The image is nicely apportioned into 3 different blocks. The composition does look balanced but the cut off tree at the top is a slight niggle for me. It's been quite interesting playing with different crops of this image but none look any better than the one you have here.

I saw lines first - the path, tree trunks and shadows as a pattern. Good one. I do agree with Dave about the effect of the cut-off trees - but in practical terms including their full height would increase the proportion of sky and we'd probably be asking for a crop...

I like the way the converging lines meet off centre. I think you could make quite a few differing compositions from this scene.Smile

Thanks for your comments - I agree Dave and Moira that the cut off trees don't look quite right - in the original there was a little more height, but I hadn't got the full height even then SadSad

I like the fact that the shadows start in the corner and lead your eye in - I think you did very well, it is a well balanced composition.

It suits me fine, Helen; I tend to see the shadows first myself.
I might even be tempted to crop the top more severely to remove most of the Vee of sky between the rows of trees. It strengthens the appearance of the shadows by darkening the overall image.
But I'm not imagining it as a b&w image - not yet Wink

Bill - I can see the advantage of that straight away as it removes any focus on one particular cut off tree at the top - I might yet go with b/w SmileSmile
