The Bay Hotel

By TrevBatWCC
Robin Hood's Bay Hotel stands on a rock by the beach. The original hotel, erected on the same site, was washed away by a high tide in 1843. The present one is not likely to share the same fate, being strongly built and well buttressed by a sea-wall, but it is so close to the sea that apparently in a storm the shock of the waves causes a throb through the building!
Offering a splendid view across the bay, itís the perfect location to enjoy some lunch, as myself & Phil did when the high tide forced us back off the beach and up the adjacent slipway.

Looks a little better seen large if you have the time.

Another super image, Trev, and more memories! I wonder what hotel/guest house I stayed in, and whether it is even still there or not, bearing in mind that it was over 50 years ago! Carol

Great shot of the hotel and very nicely processed too, Trev. It does look a delightful spot and the hotel looks very inviting.

I know it well. I've had difficulty here with all the clutter that gets parked in front, you've used it well.

Looks just as it did the one time we visited. Had to resist the temptation to partake though as was driving - though I would have burned most of the drink off during the struggle back up the hill Smile

A super shot - brings back memories....

Photos like this celebrate the mundane and the time-tested--it leads the viewer to appreciate that which is around him, for its own beauty, not needing to compare it to anything else. "You are what you are looking for" in Mevlana Jalalluddin Rumi's idea, this place at The Bay is happy being itself. Thanks for capturing this image to share. Good work.

Love the paving and the stonework of the buildings. And, you're right, it does look even better when viewed large Smile

Hi Trev, Could do with a pint there right now and a good meal to go with it . Looks to me that you have used a little photopgraphic licence and cloned out the double yellow lines at least . This is taken before the tide came and forced us to take cover in The Bay. Anyway it's a super shot and I am sure you must be helping the local tourist trade with all these wonderful images from the Whitby area . You should qualify for a free holiday at least....Phil

Wonderful image Trevor.
Never took this view when I was there, too many people....
RHB is a nightmare with all the wires, TV aerials, yellow lines and a like.
I think youíve done a grand job of dealing with them.
