The beautiful curls of a rose

By Jas2
having learnt a lot from unstinting support of the critiques over the last 2 weeks or so , this is another attempt at a macro of the same Red rose in my garden which is now in full bloom and has the most intoxicating smell of all the other variety of roses, can you imagine the smell multiplying several times with yesterdays rain droplets .

I have done this with the help of a tripod , cropped and sharpened as well as used HDR effect . I hope the hard work of the critiques has paid off! Many thanks all of you great men and women of incredible talent.

Question, - this file is 897kb, what size is your original file?

If its larger, can you upload it without and modification or re-sizing.

How did you set your white balance.

Modification added. A square crop, for comparison. Do you necessarily need 3 x 2 here? Do you need extra space at the sides? Square contains the subject, concentrates attention on the centre.

I reduced exposure slightly and also reduces saturation.

You can't upload a Raw file here, but you don't need to resize the file.

No, you cant upload RAW, but you can convert the RAW to a large JPEG and upload. Lets know how you set the white balance, - what values for example.

How lovely, Jassi !
Filling the frame with your subject looks great.
The water droplets are looking good, with some nice highlights in them.
And it's so good to know you used a tripod.

With a very close shot like this, you have to be aware of every small detail. There are some very small bits of green background showing, top left and bottom right. You could have either cropped either side to remove these, or cloned some petals over the green.
You say that you have cropped, you just needed a touch more cropping either side.
Moira's square crop removes them nicely, but it's something to be aware of.

Your aperture has given you a large depth of field, with everything in focus.
I wonder if the rose really needed the HDR effect? HDR is useful for high-contrast images, for subjects that have a large noticeable contrast between light and dark areas.

I'm so glad you have found previous critique useful and that you are putting into practice what you have learnt.

Pamela.

Hello
I set the white balance to shade as it had just rained.
I will check again why such a big file got so small???

There's a lot I like about this, and the settings look just right.

Like Pamela, I wonder whether an HDR effect was needed - the tonality seems a bit harsh, and slightly softer might be really good... A straight, high quality JPG would be interesting to see.

Good work!

Thanks for joining in the conversation.

Everyone has their own approach, but a lot of us prefer to stick with auto white balance and tweak later if necessary....
