The Burying Ground #2

By KingBee
Another aspect of an upload I did a while back, and if you'll forgive the repetition I have included a section of the original narrative to provide context.

The town of Portsmouth in New Hampshire offers visitors a Black Heritage tour. Less immediately obvious is the existence of the African Burying Ground where, when a construction crew in the area uncovered some human remains in 2003, the city resolved to build a memorial to mark the Ground's location. It's a modest memorial: a brick sidewalk quoting the impassioned plea for independence made by slaves after learning of the Declaration of Independence, statues with thought-provoking statements on them, and an underground vault where the known remains were re-interred. This sculpture (shown in part: there is a female figure also) is but one example.

Many thanks to Will for his UA for yesterday's upload, and thanks to everyone else who looked in.

A noble figure and an intro worth re-reading. At this juncture it is an especially fit and poignant post.
Thanks Bob.

It could hardly be a more timely image, given what's been going on. Sadly, attitudes among some people, and not just in America, have hardly changed. But if those, like us, who know it's so wrong, keep hammering on, maybe one day ...

Well, you know that photographing sculpture is a passion of mine. I see it as being about producing one's own work, that is faithful to the spirit of the original. What strikes me here is the reticence, the sadness, he is just edging modestly into the frame, but standing his ground.
And the fresh flowers of course.

The sculptor has done such a fine job of showing emotion. You've captured his work well. Perfect timing for this. I really can't understand how there's still some people who haven't learned we are all just people.

His expression seems to be saying, "Words and memorials are fine, but try actually doing something"
