The Church of St Mary de Haura, Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex

By NDODS
Good Day to you all at ePz

Firstly thank you for all your wonderful comments and votes following yesterdays upload. A further mention going to Kuvailija (Jukka), gss (Silviu) and Bobsblues (Bob) for their User Awards.

Todays image of the Church of St Mary de Haura in Shoreham was captured yesterday during a wonderful day out with julie. The Church is described as: “One of the most magnificent Romanesque parish churches in the whole of the south-east of England” and certainly lives up to the reputation especially on a beautiful warm bright day. Image one is the modified version, image two the original which shows a ghastly rubbish bin and a few other unnecessary distractions. I opted to process the image in full colour simply because of the light and the beautiful cobalt blue sky.

I hope that you have a wonderful day, for me it will be a touch of relaxation as I had a seizure not long after I got back from my day out with Julie.

Regards as always NathanGrinGrinGrin

I see we have both been doing some digital manipulation this morning! Well done. Obviously I prefer the colour version but I would like to see a sepia toned version of the mono too.

fine shot...tempted to say keep the bin, as it's part of our time, but couldn't they disguise it as a gravestone? WinkGrin

Don't know why rubbish bins are always put in the most inappropriate places so great work in making V1 - this is the way it should be. Smile Have a restful Sunday.

V1 for me, I can easily live with or without the litter bin but the clear blue sky is such a novelty - let's enjoy it to the full!

It's a lovely composition - good use of portrait, leading the eye up through the frame, past the graves and lamp posts, into the church and up to the tower. I like the way that foliage frames the scene, giving it a sense of quiet privacy without hiding anything significant.

I have one quibble, which is that it somehow doesn't look entirely stable to me. Looking closely I can see why. The true vertical in the image is the more distant lamp post on the left. After that, everything tilts progressively more towards the left. Get to the right hand foreground and 18mm has given a very pronounced lean to those railings - my eye needs to see something similar happening on the left. As a general guideline, I prefer to see the verticals nearest the centre of the image true, rather than on one side.

My inclination here would be to use Skew to drag the bottom left corner out a bit. That would lose some detail, including a part of the left edge of the path though. Do you fancy enabling Mods and I'll have a play?

Beautiful capture from great point of view, excellent processed by removing this rather strange to the scene litter bin!

You need to check the date in your camera, Nathan. According to your exif you took the image over 8 hours after you uploaded it!Grin
Lovely church, beautifully framed image, the trees keeping our focus on the building.
Agree with Moira about the slight lean, needs to be straightened up.

Interesting comments from Moira, Nathan: but a fine capture of this Church with good exposure of both sunlit and shadowed areas.
You have processed the original well to exclude the bin, etc.

I'm with Moira on the stability thing, but the bottom left isn't the answer!

Top right out a bit in skew, and everything comes right.

Well - nearly everything. The bin is actually on the slope, and that makes the verticals on that side look wrong, though they aren't really...

Odd that the newest thing in the shot is the one that's horribly askew: but life's like that...

Love the blue sky. Great image, don't think the mono does the sky any justice, so rarely do we see such a lovely sky seems a shame to change it, that's just my opinion.

A lovely capture of this beautiful church, Nathan - even if the verticals are a little out as Moira says Wink
I think it much improves the image with the nasty rubbish bin removed...why do they always locate these in front of the best shots?!! Sad Does look good in mono, but as said, with the lack of sunshine lately, has to be the colour version Wink
