the coffee house god

By bliba
A lot of nonsense has been written about the Viennese coffee house, this mythical place. Most of it was written by locals, the rest by under-informed Adorants from abroad. In circulation are all sorts of interpretations that attribute gastronomic competence to the Viennese coffee house - there is talk of the elegance and charm of the head waiters, of the fabulous pastry tradition and of the inimitable quality of the coffee settled here.

All nonsense because of the coffee in any case nobody went and goes with serious intentions and some experience into a Viennese coffee house. In the best case, the bean rich is drinkable, usually annoyingly bitter, stale and often simply inedible. Every confectioner, every court confectioner has better pastries ready. And friendly waiters are virtually unknown in Austria's capital.

Viennese have their own coffee house for every purpose.
Much was also written and reported about the favourite café, the Stammcafé. But this myth is based on bad foundations, because the Viennese and the Viennese and all those who do the same have their own coffee houses for every purpose. For the privacy of one, for difficult meetings another, a third for the rendezvous, another for the cake-hungry and a fifth, in which one can go to the toilet at any time without being asked.

The coffee houses of the city are machines with varied karma. Some of them were taken too early by the coffee house god (and transferred to car showrooms and airline offices). Some of them he disfigured beyond recognition, some of them he sacrificed to the demon of tourist suitability. Quite a few have been drawn into the evil whirlpool of destruction by the past.

Apropos the myth of the reason for choosing a favourite coffee house, you forgot the photographic possibilities offered and which differ from establishment to establishment.

Love the shot and also the essay on coffee houses - a similar story applies to cafés and bars in our part of France.
