By mrswoolybill
From our U3A group's visit to Dunston Staiths. Two alternative compositions, plus photographers Barbara and Ron appearing in colour this time.
Thanks for looking,

The strong blue to the right, as in the lead image, seems to please my eye/brain better than the version.

That's the sort of relationship that I wanted to make. Well maybe not precisely the connection that I was aiming at, but close...
Thanks folks. Malc, it's one where I think the foreground interest on the right does work better. I wanted to test that out.

V1 is my preference. I always find that you tend to view from left to right (as per reading a Book) so the metal object on the left, for me, gives more impact.

Fine serie of details, and the portrait is also very fine in colors!

Thanks again folks. Ian, left to right is the intuitive direction for the brain to 'read'. I was interested in the comparison here.

Yep, it's the full stop not the starting point. My brain is a bit clearer of the fog...

Not only the direction but the format is also working well in the lead image, (more space)...i know Two members of this site one rontear and another miwand, probably he is one of them in v2 (as i had tried to say in your b/w version)...

I like your lead shot, Moira. Good dof with just enough of the background to give a sense of location.

I guess I have a weird brain....I like the composition in v2. There is something more immediate and strong about it.

I like the lead version here, focus is spot on with enough to suggest the surroundings.

Isabel, it's part of the mechanism that lowered sacks of coal from the staith down to the barges waiting on the river below. There are three such loading areas.
