The Corinthian.

By deviant
[In the words of Lemony Snickett - BEST NOT VIEWED AT ALL)

This was inspired by Takui Neko whose work I much admire (Check out his portfolio and you'll see why).

I set out to make an image from various photographs I had taken. Based loosly on Takui's 'grunge self portrait' tutorial.

It is constructed using multiple photos all taken by myself starting with a self portrait. There are photos of frescos from Italy, scenes of purgatory from Florence, statues of death, some ancient crosses and even a dinosaur from the Natural History museum, oh and lots of teeth.

The image is based on my imaginings of 'The Corinthian' a creature created by Neil Gaiman. A fiend with Teeth for eyes who consumed peoples eyes and murdered them gruesomely. What this says about my state of mind I do not know...
Have a Nice day!

This has to be one of the best 'montages' (is this the right term?) for quite a while, brilliant. CLK. Warrants an EC.

My first thought when looking at this was 'book cover'. It's creative/artistic design tells a story (it asks lots of questions too).

If I saw this at Waterstones with your title, I'd definately pick it up and read the cover notes. Take that as a huge compliment for this piece and think about using these skills commercially.

A really good piece of thoughtful and inspiring work.

Best wishes, Simon

About 18 hours total I think. It uses 18 photos, all shot in RAW and processed to tif. 8 images had to be masked and cut out carefully (skeletons mainly). Quite a nice experience though, got something out my system whatever it may be.

Kafka - A God...Mmm don't think I want the responsibility and knowing my nature the power would only corrupt me :o)
Mark - Thanks for the comment, there is imagary in the picture taken from Roman stuff I photographed on an Italian trip. So well spotted. The corners are made with images of early christian crosses photographed in the basement of an old church.

David I am at a loss. Different and very well constructed. It draws you back to it to look again and each time you notice something different.

An individual image with lots of imagination.

Hi Deviant, sorry the delay, I looked at the image many times until it was fixed in my inner eye, so I could take it with me and let it show me about itself.

No doubt the larger version shows better all the intrincancies and details which are very well organized and thought.

Many objects without being roccoco, thats not easy to acomplish indeed.

Only one thing I thought could be modified and that is the tone; I go with Goethes idea that shape should be shown by tones.

So maybe more differences in tone could really add extra depth to an already good image.

Well done!

Wooowh, I'm not going to read above 'cos sure I'll be influenced.

How feisty is that? Tingly sort of image. Exciting, hot colour!

A bloke that's all eyes with his mouth stapled...just about the perfect image for me...thanks Grin

No, seriously now: Interesting, a bit Da Vinci actually, excellent colour and comp (of course) but also fantastic imagination.

I like that it is quite 'on the surface' if you can understand what I'm trying to say. Many would subdue the tones and make it quite a dark (and somewhat depressing) image.

I love that it is a red hot, up your nose, gladiator type of image.

PS, took in your advice and posted a shot for you just now Smile

OK, read above now, no offense and all respect to Takui. Opposite opinions just make a more interesting world...and he is an extremely cool and experienced photographer! Love P, X
