The Darkroom

By chase
I had a visitor a couple of days ago who brought me a whole car full of interesting stuff, including this Gnome Enlarger and the red safelight for darkroom use.
This is my first outing with the gear and a Lensbaby Composer....oooo, head in a whirl..oh yes !
The safelight brought back many darkroom memories and the mischief made in such rooms Wink

Things here may not be in totally the right place but, this is my darkroom, in a dark room.
Lit by the safelight and a little daylight leakage from my window ( curtains closed ) camera left.
My favourite bits are the coloured bulldog clips at the back.
Nothing digitally added or taken away.

My thanks to the original donor and Mr. Duder (ePz dudler) who took the time to deliver said equipment.

Thanks for dropping by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.
Janet xx

How kind of John (dudler) to leave you a carload of treasure.
He really does take time to help so many of us and explain things.
A great start with your new toys Janet.

a very beautiful picture ... reminds me of when I developed pictures in my parents' bathroom.

thanks for sharing

Enjoy your new toys! My favourite bit of the shot is the string of photos and the coloured clips too. I think we could be seeing more of these! Smile

Takes me back to college days and to tasting developer and fixer.

Happy days.

That was rapid work, Janet!

Beautiful - and I wouldn't have thought of using the Lensbaby: and it gives just the right feel for the dim perception of objects in a darkroom.

It's much more beautiful (and much tidier) than mine!

I did use film for many years, but never developed my own, many due to space, kids etc. I did a college course for a few weeks though, taking photos and then developing and printing in a dark room...great fun. Lovely work again Janet Smile

Thanks everyone.
This did bring back to me the smell of hand processing, something I will never forget.

This takes me back to the days of film! I had (and still have) a Paterson colour enlarger, and though I never really got any good at processing colour, did quite a bit of black & white. My temporary darkroom was the bathroom, with enlarger on the toilet seat (down of course!) and processing trays in the bath. How so much easier it all is in Photoshop! 😁

A lovely evocation of a darkroom Janet, only the smell missing!
I still have all my darkroom stuff in boxes, it's been to a few places now. Everything I read about developing prints mentioned keeping the developer warm (obviously a hang over from pre central heating days) once in Africa I had to put a bag of ice in the developer to stop prints going black immediately!
Now you've me some ideas..................

A 1960s commercial hairdryer, or a designer coffee percolator.
A child's nightlight.

Immediate thoughts on opening the thumb.Wink

The set-up works well using the lensbaby - I reckon it might just become your favourite lens.Wink

Thanks everyone.
Lol Malc, you do so make me smile...hairdryer, yes, I see that one, designer coffee percolator, now there's a niche Wink
The child's nightlight is a good idea although I have plans for said light.

Go for it James, taking ideas from others is a good thing !...I'm going to apply for smellavision Wink

The LB has a place in my kit bag, it's challenging and a bit different, whether it will become my favourite, who knows.

Great capture have fun, brings back many memories of my childhood when my late father blacked out the bathroom to develop and print, we had to sit on the stairs counting the seconds for him.

Great shot that has taken a lot of back and the hours spent in the dark. I remember the great joy when they change the reel in the film tank to the plastic self winding one that made loading a film a real joy...
